High School Teacher Defends Her Decision to Pump While Teaching, Says Students Are Not ‘Immature’

A high school English teacher from Arizona has publicly defended her decision to use a wearable breast pump during class time after returning from maternity leave.

When her son was born this year in April, her second child was still at the age of breastfeeding, despite the fact that she had such a hectic schedule comprising full teaching days.

Instead of leaving the classroom, she researched wearable pumps that might operate discreetly while she was busy teaching. She spoke about putting the pump into her bra in a separate room, then returning to teach her duty while wearing a giant nursing poncho for coverage.

Students spoke about this matter during the start of the year how they would be hearing a soft buzzing sound. The teacher says she did not wish to disrupt her students’ learning by stepping out of the classroom for her pumping sessions. She added that this was the only way to make the most of the situation, as walking out for 30 minutes during an English class would impact the overall academic experience would suffer.

When she was asked if this was appropriate, she added that her students are mature enough and understand the concept. However, trolls do feel that pumping should be done in discretion and while not at work.
