A hairdresser, 52, tragically died in a hospital car park after being hit by a car. The incident occurred at Hull Royal Infirmary in East Yorkshire, where the woman was being treated for a broken ankle.
The victim was identified as Angela Hickling, a mother of two and grandmother of five. She worked at a salon in Hull and was described by her colleagues as a “well-loved member of the team.”
According to reports, Ms. Hickling had been discharged from the hospital and was on her way to the car park when she was hit by a blue Vauxhall Astra. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Ms. Hickling died from her injuries.
The driver of the car, a 64-year-old woman, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She was later released on bail, pending further inquiries.
Ms. Hickling’s family and colleagues have paid tribute to her, describing her as a “kind-hearted” person who was loved by many.
Her daughter, Stephanie, said: “My mum was an amazing woman, always putting others first, and she would do anything for anyone. She was a fantastic mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.”
The salon where Ms. Hickling worked also released a statement, saying: “Angela was a much-loved member of our team, and we are devastated by the news of her passing. She was a kind-hearted, caring, and loyal person who had a smile for everyone.”
The tragedy has prompted calls for increased safety measures in hospital car parks. A spokesperson for Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said they were “deeply saddened” by the incident and were cooperating with the police investigation.
The spokesperson added: “We offer our sincere condolences to the family of the patient involved, and we will continue to provide support to them during this difficult time. Patient safety is our top priority, and we take the safety of our staff, patients, and visitors very seriously.”
The incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that can arise in car parks, particularly those attached to hospitals. As such, it is crucial that hospital authorities take steps to improve safety and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
